Preservation commission to discuss DeLaSalle stadium plan May 9

The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission will hold its first discussion of the DeLaSalle stadium project at its meeting May 9, 5 p.m., in Room 317, City Hall, 350 South Fifth Street, Minneapolis.

The HPC will hear about the city's 2005 Environmental Assessment Worksheet on the private school's plan to build a football stadium over Grove Street and public parkland on Nicollet Island from Michael Orange, former Minneapolis city planner. (Orange, who retired in January, is now a consultant to the city.)

The Minneapolis HPC website http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/cped/agendas/hpc/2006/20060509hpc.asp lists the DeLaSalle EAW agenda item as a "Public Hearing," but according to HPC staff, the commission will hold a discussion, not a hearing, on the topic, because DeLaSalle has not yet made an application for its stadium project with the HPC. An emailed version (see attached file below) of the agenda does list the DeLaSalle item under "Discussion."
